As a textiledesigner I think it is important to use the pure wool from rare sheep breeds for my wallhangings so that the world of these great wool producers becomes visible. The Ouessant is a breed of domestic sheep from the island Ouessant off the coast of Brittany. It is one of the smallest breeds of sheep in the world. Rams are about 48 cm tall at the shoulder. This small size makes them more resistant to the rugged living conditions on the island off the coast of Brittany. Most Ouessant are black or dark brown in color, but white individuals do occur.
