About Robijn

Robijn Sonneveld. Born in Schiedam, the Netherlands on 28 October 1962. Mother of a daughter and a son. Residing in the Bijlmer, Amsterdam.

I started working as a texitleartist in 2018. The love for textiles started with my mother, she took me into the magical world of fabricstores with walls full of amazing structures and colors.

It brought me into fashion.

After a 3 years study at the Couture Institute in Rotterdam i studied fashion at the renowned Artez, school of art in Arnhem from 1983-1987.

Straight from school my first job as a fashiondesigner was at Oilily in Alkmaar followed by a variety of brands during 25 years.

This long period of fast fashion made me longing to return to the essence in search for what the real beauty is in life.

In 2018 I started making walltapestries because the tactility of materials provide me total freedom to express the sensitvity of my spiritual awareness.

The soft power

Our human being is a natural being.
We are nature.
We forget this so often and live in conflict with nature.
This creates imbalance and all the associated problems.
We lose the essence of who we are and keep rushing past ourselves.

By living mindfully we can observe deeply and learn wordlessly. When we realize that the nature around us and our human nature are inseparable, we live organically.

Clearing and overcoming resistances in the human psyche transforms the unruly, frozen into liquid free-flowing.
When those renewing free forces overcome and fill a person, the soul can awaken.

When our own energy, like water, can flow freely, we are open, spontaneous, and flexible, and we can feel filled with an irresistible force—precisely because nothing is forced.

My work arises from this awareness, i am a part of the organic naturel flow.
I follow my heart, my hands, my eyes. Open to the possibilities that present themselves.

Wool is a wonderful organic material with which I can explore nature. My nature, your nature. It shows me that I can want a lot, but if I let go of my pursuit of perfection and don’t control the felting and dyeing process too much, so much more is possible, more than I could ever have dreamed of.

Have a personal tapestry made…what can you expect?

When you have a wall tapestry made by me, it becomes a custom work of art. I think it is very important that the wall hanging is a visualization of what is important in your life. Or what you desire. An expression of what is valuable to you. Together with you I will look for what that treasure is, I will come to see how you live and I like to take a walk in nature together to hear your stories, your preferences for color, shape and structures. With that information I make a design and make it as visual as possible so that you get a good idea of how the wall carpet will fit into your environment. I come up with color and structure examples. Once choices have been made, the organic growth process begins and I let my hands do their work.
