About Robijn

Robijn Sonneveld, Dutch felt and textile artist, i make  large vitalizing wall tapestries wich are driven by my spiritual interest and holistic view for being human and woman, body, mind and soul. I am based in Amsterdam.  The love for textiles started with my mother. She took me into the magical world of fabricstores with walls full of amazing colors and structures.

This brought me into fashion. I had my study fashion design at the Couture Institute in Rotterdam followed by the renowned Artez, school of art in Arnhem.

For almost 30 years i  worked as a fashion- and print designer for various clothing brands. The most interesting part was working with the diversity of materials, colors and processing methods. This ultimately made me decide to focus entirely on the tactile world of textiles, to create tapestries.

About Robijn’s work

An expressive encouragement on your wall..

You can see my felt wall tapestries as an encouragement to live a free life, according to your true innerself.

The tangible wall hangings are wool and silk felted enriched with lost and found materials. Instead of felting the textile artwork in one go, I process hand-dyed pre-felted pieces into a huge collage.

You could say that all favourite techniques learned from my childhood, art education and fashion experience come together in these tapestries.
By processing as a collage it is possible to obtain a complexity of image, texture and color. It is a road full of adventure with an unpredictable result. The end result is born in the process. …

Embracing the unexpected.

This organic and natural way of working is also reflected in my designs.
It is an expression of my personal growth. The discovery of the wealth that life offers if you allow it. As human beings we tend to live according to firm beliefs and patterns. Thoughts that focus on what is wrong, what is missing or what fails. This affects your life. You sabotage yourself with this and that is a great pity because you do not use your true potential.
To change your way of thinking and experience success and happiness, it is necessary to clarify why you are holding yourself back.
You choose whether you live in a friendly or hostile universe.

To find your original self you need to go inside, under the skin. And it takes courage to make that journey inside. Starting with yoga and going into nature helped me to get in touch with my naturel self and i realized i am nature!
As a human  i am an essential part of a living and intelligent universe.
All i do and think is related to the world around me.

In this process i created step by step more clarity, embracing the goddess within me.
With my roots grounded and my heart opening i am now capable to fly and sparkle.

My tapestries are projections of these insights in the hope to inspire you to not only show the controlled version of yourself but live your full potential.
Every day is a new opportunity to make your world a better place!
